How long have you been doing what you do and how did you get to be the Staging Designers’ Success Coach?

After spending many years in the corporate world working for and with top law firms in the San Francisco Bay Area and then in sales for some of the top high tech companies in Silicon Valley, I started my Staging Design firm in March 2003 while still working full time. In less than two months, my staging business grew to the point that I chose to leave my J.O.B. to jump full speed into the entrepreneurial world. This did not come without challenges. My business was a rollercoaster. I would go through weeks of being really busy and weeks where it was completely dead. My income was unpredictable and I was often frustrated by clients who skirted the payment issue, houses that were not ready for staging on the scheduled Stage date, and running around town to meet with everyone who called. Growing my business was a huge learning curve for me, but eventually, I learned to set up systems to create more consistent, reliable results for myself and my Staging team.

As a Professional Home Stager, I have worked and consulted with Homeowners, Realtors, Developers, Builders, Investors, and other Staging Professionals to stage residential resale properties, model home projects, manage remodel for resale projects, and complete design renovations. I was interviewed by Money Magazine, featured on a local CBS program “Eye on the Bay” and have been a Speaker to various Real Estate related organizations, including a national Staging convention.

From the moment I started my business, I was often sought out by new and experienced Stagers alike for advice from how to start their own Staging businesses to how to handle ongoing issues that continued to plague them. After repeatedly hearing the same concerns from fellow Staging Design Professionals, I felt it was time for someone to bring this guidance to the mainstream. There are many programs available to teach the ART of Staging, but very few that focus on the BUSINESS side. The mission of SuccessfulStagingBiz.com is to help Staging Designers transform their businesses from being an expensive hobby to being a profitable expression of their talent. The goal is to be viewed as a valuable business partner by their clients. The first step, of course, is that you must take yourself seriously, so that others will too.

Who are your clients exactly?

I work with professional business owners in Home Staging and design careers, just like you, who are really good at what they do; however, struggle with the business part because they have never been taught exactly how to run a business and set up marketing and other systems so they can consistently attract clients, achieve results, save time and make more money.

How are you different from other “business coaches?”

Although we will occasionally touch upon time management and other “business coach-y” things, you have me as a Home Staging/Real Estate expert and consultant. I ONLY work with solo entrepreneurs and small business owners who are in the Home Staging and Real Estate industry. I’m not a Jill-of-all-trades-coach. I refer those businesses to other coaches. What that means to you is that I am very focused on anything and everything that works for the Home Staging sole practitioner. Because my focus is very narrow, what you get with me is no-nonsense, undiluted expertise on what works for independent professionals.

What type of personality do you work best with and what is expected of me?

The Successful Staging Biz workshops, products and programs were created for people who are absolutely excited and deadly serious about building and growing their Home Staging businesses. My website is called Successful Staging Biz because my students are interested in having a Successful Staging business and if you are diligent about implementing the strategies I teach, you will be well on your way to achieving just such a business. For what type of professional is this program NOT going to work?

Just as you’re careful about selecting the coach you work with, I too am careful about selecting the people I work with. With my clients, I’m committed that the work we do together produces the results they want. In order to achieve results, you want to be ready, willing and able to do the work.

The other type of person I don’t work well with are people who are negative, skeptical, or resistant to doing the work. They usually come up with excuses week after week for not doing the assignments and then question why they’re not reaching their goals. If you fall into this category, I don’t believe I can help you out. We probably will not work well together and I wouldn’t want you to waste your time or money. Is that fair?

Does this really work?

Yes, it really works! If you commit yourself to doing the work, learn the steps and apply them in your day-to-day activities, you’ll see results in a much shorter time than if you do it yourself.
